CASA Aviation Medicals

Paul Hopkins Medical Complex offers CASA Aviation Medicals with Dr Lee Huang, Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME).

We provide Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 Aviation Medicals.

Aviation medicals require some preparation before your appointment. Our team will help guide you through the PHMC booking process and make sure you know what needs to be completed before seeing Dr Huang.

Aviation Medical Fees

Aviation Medicals at Paul Hopkins Medical Complex are privately billed and are not eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Class 1 – Commercial / Professional $410 ECG $40 Total $450

Class 2 – Private $210 ECG Not applicable 

Class 3 – Air Traffic Controllers $410 ECG $40 Total $450

Important Fee Information

There is no Medicare rebate available for the Aviation Medical or ECG.

External testing is not included in the PHMC fees above.

Depending on your individual CASA requirements, you may also need:

• Pathology

• Aviation eye examination

• Hearing/audiology testing

• Specialist reports

• Other investigations requested by CASA

These services are provided externally and are charged separately by the relevant provider at their own rates.

We recommend checking the applicable fees directly with the external provider when arranging your testing.

How to Organise Your Aviation Medical

Step 1 – Complete Your CASA MRS Application

Before we can progress your Aviation Medical, you will need to complete your medical application through the CASA Medical Records System (MRS).

CASA MRS will advise which tests, investigations or reports are required for your individual application.

Once you have completed your CASA MRS application, contact Paul Hopkins Medical Complex.

Let our reception team know you are enquiring about a CASA Aviation Medical with Dr Lee Huang and that you have completed your CASA MRS application.

Please have your CASA Aviation Reference Number (ARN) available.

Step 2 – PHMC Will Organise Your Initial Requirements

Once you have contacted us and provided your Aviation Reference Number, we will advise Dr Huang that you are ready to proceed.

Where required, you will receive:

• An SMS for pathology testing

• An audiology referral/instructions via email

• Our PHMC Aviation Medical Pre-Appointment Health Information Form

If you have not received the expected pathology or audiology information within 5 working days, please contact our team.

Step 3 – Complete Your Required Testing

Your CASA MRS application will advise which investigations are required for your individual Aviation Medical.

Blood Tests

If blood testing is required, Dr Huang will prepare a pathology request for you.

We recommend having your blood test completed first thing in the morning and at least 5 days before your Aviation Medical appointment to allow time for your results to be received.

Your pathology request will be emailed to you. Welcome to go to any pathology centre of your chosing to complete the test.

 Hearing / Audiology Test

If CASA requires a hearing test, this will need to be completed with an appropriate external hearing/audiology provider.

PHMC will provide a referral to an audiologist 

Your hearing assessment must be completed and the report available before you return your PHMC Pre-Appointment Health Information Form and book your formal Aviation Medical.

Aviation Eye Examination

If CASA requires an aviation eye examination, this must be performed by a:

• Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO), or

• Credentialed Optometrist (CO)

You do not require a referral to arrange this appointment.

If you wear glasses, please take your usual pair and your backup pair to your eye examination.

ECG

If CASA requires an ECG, this will be completed at Paul Hopkins Medical Complex immediately before your appointment with Dr Huang.

The ECG fee is $40 and is not Medicare rebateable.

For Class 1 and Class 3 Aviation Medicals, this is included in the total PHMC fee shown above.

Step 4 – Complete and Return Your PHMC Form

Our reception team will provide you with the PHMC Aviation Medical Pre-Appointment Health Information Form.

Please only return this form once you have completed all required preparation and testing, including any required:

• Pathology

• Audiology/hearing testing

• Aviation eye assessment

• Specialist reports

• Other investigations requested as part of your CASA medical application

The form will also ask you for information about your medical history, medications, current medical conditions, specialists involved in your care and recent investigations.

Step 5 – Book Your Formal Aviation Medical

Once all required testing is complete, return your completed PHMC Aviation Medical Pre-Appointment Health Information Form to us.

Receiving your completed form lets our reception team know that you have finished the required preparation and are ready to book your formal CASA Aviation Medical with Dr Lee Huang.

Our team can then assist you with arranging the appropriate appointment.
